Morgan Ensbery Signs with Yankees

ESPN is reporting that Morgan Ensberg has signed with the Yanks. Morgan had a few years where he was one of the best third baseman in the NL. He started 2007 off terribly and got traded to San Diego mid-season. He imrpoved somewhat but not to his old levels. He`s played only one game at first but I guess that`s what they plan on having him try at.

Mission Accomplished

Santana's going to the Mets pending a physical and a contract extension. They have 2 days to work out an extension or no deal. Santana to the NL is the best we could have hoped for. Boston won't be invincible and we hang onto Phil.

Bedard to Seattle

A while ago I suggested the Yankees trading for Erik Bedard. Instead he went to Seattle. That`s a scary 1-2 punch in Seattle now.

Cano-Yanks Done Deal

The new deal is worth 28 million for 2008-2011. Their is also options for 2012 and 2013. In total those are worth 27 million or a 2 million dollar buyout. So essentially its for 30 million for 4 years with team options for 2012 and 2013.

I love this deal. Cano is already a great player and I see him getting only better. His defense has made leaps and bounds to make him one of the best defenders in the league. Earlier I reccomended he be switched with Jeter at SS. We all know about his bat to. He hits for a great average and those doubles in the gap are going to turn into home runs as he gets older. The only flaw in his game is his plate disciplince. He improved that last year to though, with more walks.

Cano approaching long term deal

http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080124&content_id=2354470&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy

Cano and the Yanks are getting close to a 4 year deal according to this. I like it. Cano's is one of the best 2nd basemen in baseball. Off the top of my head the only one better than him is Chase Utley. He really young as well and its time to lock him up.

Young Pitcher's innings

On Pete Abraham's blog Will Caroll wrote an article on the Big Three and their innings. Kennedy looks like he should be able to handle a full seasons workload but the other two shouldn't, especially Hughes. Remember back in September when I suggested putting Hughes in the bullpen for the playoffs? Remember how well he worked in relief of Clemens in the playoffs?

In order to limit his and Joba's innings they could move each to the bullpen for half the season. Say Hughes in the bullpen and Joba in the rotation for the first half and the other way around for the second half. This all depends on how Mussina holds up but Mussina's periphereals last year show he was more than a little unlucky last year. I think you`ll actually see this but to a lesser exten than my example.

We`re headed to Pheonix!

Aside from being a Yankees fan i`m also a huge Giants fan and I`ve just seen the best game of any sport I`ve ever seen. Just one more win baby, one more win.

Arbitration Offers In

Nothing huge but the arbitration numbers are in. No big differences in demands and offers except on Cano with a 2 million dollar difference the Yanks seem to be lowballng Cano a bit. I`d lock up Cano now but wait on Bruney and Wang

65 Pitches Dot Com

Phil Hughes has started his own blog. It`s great to see how many Yankees fans really want him to stay. I doubt it`ll be as annoying as a certain other east coast pitcher's blog.

No More Santana Talk

The Yanks are pulling out of the Santana trade talks. I guess we`re really done here pretty much

Are we done here?

That`s what it seems like. After the chaos of the beginnning of the offseason we seem to be just about done barring a sudden Santana trade.

Rich "Goose" Gossage in the Hall

I like the selection but that might just be my bias speaking. He`s certainly not the worst selection ever made.

Congratulations to him.

Jim Rice is getting frighteningly close and somehow Andre Dawson also beat out Bert Byleven who should have been elected a long long time ago.

Clemens and McNamee to go to Congress

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/05/sports/baseball/05clemens.html?ex=1357275600&en=cdd8f748ff7513c7&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink

So McNamee and Clemens have both agreed to congress and I was wrong.

Cashman

Yankees.com has an interesting article on Brian Cashman. It really looks like he`s losing power in the organization.

Clemens "Invited" to Congress

I`m really getting tired of this steroid thing which is why it took so long for me to post on this.

My guess is that he trys to weasel out of an appearance making some sort of excuse but who knows?

Steve Lombardi reminds us of two important things in Yankees history that happened today.
